According to the Official Government Gazette No. 270/1-12-1999, the Laboratory of Geophysics is part of the Section of Geophysics -Geothermy of the Department of Geology and Geoenvironment of the University of Athens. The Laboratory of Geophysics also includes the "Research Unit for Space Applications in Geosciences". It is located in the Panepistimiopoli Campus, within the Department of Geology and Geoenvironment.
The mission of the Laboratory of Geophysics is:
During the last few years, the Laboratory has put considerable effort into the development of high-resolution subsurface imaging and survey methodologies, as well as modern geophysical data analysis software.
The Laboratory of Geophysics has developed many links and collaborations with relevant academic and research units in Greece and abroad. It is also active in the communication and dissemination of scientific information also through the organization of seminars, symposia and lectures for specialists or the general public. Finally, it offers a wide range of geophysical services to organizations and persons in the private and public sector, particularly in relation to studies on technical and environmental problems, studies on mineral and water resources and geothermal studies/applications.
